Dax - Beating Hearts and False Alarms

Man......You know when I start one of these reviews I almost always have something in mind as to what I'm gonna say. Well not this time. From listening to his lyrics you can tell that Dax is a very intelligent person but sometimes it left me feeling like I needed a dictionary. I Love the first four songs on this album but then we hit a snag with The Painter to be honest it sucks the rock right out of this album. Thank god for the song Radio Mind it kept me from skipping straight to the end of this album. Happy Holidays is not a Christmas song and to be honest its one of the better songs on this album.  The song puts a smile on my face and I love the mental picture it paints. The Impressionist gave me an Eddie Vedder vibe from the first time I heard it and I must say that it is fast becoming one of my favorites.  You can tell from the words and the sound of Dax's voice that this album is very personal. And as a friend I LOVE IT as a reviewer............. It's totally worth a listen or two or three..You know what go download it for free for a limited time or buy it. You be the judge. http://noisetrade.com/dax

Lets start this review with a real statement from me. I don't really care for this type of Music. But with that being said here goes. The First thing that strikes me about this album is the hint of Tool in it. But its kinda like if Tool and Nickelback had a kid. The slight hint of Tool I like...the overwhelming stench of corporate rock just kills this whole album for me. If I had the album playing in my truck and was just letting it play in the background I could easily see myself getting a speeding ticket. It has a driving feel and the couple of songs that try and slow it down just get in the way. Over all if you like the other 5 Chevelle albums you will probably like this one, If you never liked Chevelle than this album isn't going to change your mind on them. In the Scale of fairness I would have to give this album a 4 out of 9....

I wanted to Write something clever and artistic about the music I was going to blog about, but then I remembered I am neither clever or artistic so I guess I'll just tell you how I feel about this album. I must admit I had never heard of The Maine but when I decide to start doing music reviews on here I went to All Music and then to new releases. Call it luck of the draw about after sampling about 10 others bands I happened across this brilliant peace of work. Does it have its ups and down of course what album doesn't, but for the most part this is a solid collection of 11 good songs.  I will finish up this review tomorrow with a more Track by Track breakdown. But in the meantime go buy or Download this....

So I took some time I sat down with my Ipod touch, my Dre Studio Beats, and a couple Budweisers and wrote down what I thought about every song on the album. And after doing so and working full time and raising a two year old at Christmas time, I thought what was I thinking just do a review on the Album not track by track....But too late I spent the time to write stuff down so im sure as hell gonna post it now.

Track 1 Identify
This track was not quiet Emo but still had a younger feel to it. Overall a good tune.

Track 2 My Heroine
The guitar tone and the beat on this one gave me a Black Keys Vibe, But then the popish hook they throw in there kinda kills the groove.

Track 3 Time
This is one that I might skip if I was looking for one to skip. Besides that it felt like Matthew Sweet stole the song Noose from De-Hydrated and turned it in to this.

Track 4 Some Days
The feel and groove of this song really gets this album back on track.  I love it

Track 5 I'm Sorry
Maybe the best song they have.

Track 6 Don't Give Up On Us
This is not a favorite of mine, maybe a little too much Jonas Bros/ Disney in this one.

Track 7 Misery
This song starts strong but when the backup singing kicks in it loses me. It reminds me of a commercialized Arctic Monkey song. Maybe Flirting with a BuckCherry sound and as we all know that's never a good thing.

Track 8 When I'm At Home
It kinda played and I kinda drifted off and missed it, but did I really miss anything?

Track 9 Thinking of You
A nice strong upbeat song like one you would find at the end of a Dramedy

Track 10 Jenny
I really liked this song and the overall quality and production of this song just Rocks

Track 11 Like We Did
This track really surpasses its spot on the album. Make sure if you skip anything that you do not skip this one.

Track 12 While Listening To Rock n Roll
A slow mellow beat that makes me think The Maine should do lots more like it. ROCKIN SONG

Track 13 Waiting For My Sun To Shine
Not a horrible song but should have not closed out this album. While Listening Rock n Roll made me want to hear more from this band, This song did not.......
